There’s nothing quite like an intimate wedding. Void of extra frills, Maura & Clint planned a celebration at home and at The Goodyear House in Charlotte, NC, that was a representation of the love they share and support they receive from those around them.
The best part was that every detail felt centered around what they truly thought was the most important part of their celebration; their friends and family. I was honored to document it and really enjoyed being invited to their home and to The Goodyear House, which is such a warm, inviting atmosphere for events, weddings, and gatherings. It was truly a special experience to be a part of.
A Quiet Ceremony in a Tucked-Away Backyard
From the start of planning, Maura and Clint communicated to me that they wanted a ceremony that felt intimate. They didn’t need anything extra—what they wanted most was to include the people that mattered most to them.
So a day before going to The Goodyear House in Charlotte for a reception, they held a ceremony in their own backyard.
Maura and Clint spent time redesigning and curating the backyard to be a beautiful space for them to say their vows. Fresh flowers bloomed tucked in the corner, a garden arbor stood for their vow exchange, a vintage Persian-style rug was placed for them to stand on with flower arrangements provided by Le Petit Bloom , and a mix of wooden chairs filled the lawn where family would sit to witness Maura and Clint’s love story unfolding.
Maura’s sister officiated the ceremony, and you could feel the weight of the couple’s love and admiration for each other. Vows were exchanged, tears were shed, and we all celebrated the couple as they entered a new chapter of their love story.
A Celebratory Reception at The Goodyear House in Charlotte, NC
On Saturday, Maura and Clint rented The Goodyear House in Charlotte for a celebration with their extended family and close friends. Held primarily in the expansive backyard with multiple patios, it had the feeling of a beautiful European garden party.
And the special touches are what made it a night to remember. Custom matchboxes were set out for guests to use, featuring the real star of the show, Cheddar, on the inside flap. Guests found their seats at tables marked by vintage postcards from destinations around the world, reflecting the couple's love of exploring together. Maura’s father even made specialty popcorn for party favors, endearingly coining it “Bobcorn.”
Heatherly Event Design handled design and organization of the customized food menu, bar package, and wedding cake, making planning easy for Maura and Clint and allowing them to focus on celebrating with their loved ones. Guests enjoyed the couple's signature cocktails, a Classic Lime Margarita for Clint and a Mezcal Paloma for Maura, along with fresh oysters and a menu featuring favorites like barbecue chicken and cashew macaroni and cheese.
After drinks were poured and plates were filled, guests gathered for speeches, parent dances, the couple's first dance, and an intimate cake cutting. The evening was relaxed, intentional, full of joy, and ended on the dance floor, where the couple's DJ kept everyone moving long after it got dark.
How The Goodyear House in Charlotte Set the Tone for an Intimate Celebration
The Goodyear House is known for hosting a variety of events, accommodating 15 to 250 people. It exudes North Carolina charm, from the exposed beams and cozy bricks of the backyard to the greenhouse seating with natural light reaching every corner.
As a photographer who loves texture, detail-oriented designs, historic spaces, and unique elements, I found photographing at The Goodyear House to be a dream.
The natural light hit just right. The twinkling lights on the back patio made every film photo glow with warmth, while the homey feel of the space gave each image the look and feel of a documentary film. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to photograph such a beautiful couple.
